Hi, I’m Maja, and I’m so glad you stopped by! I’m here to share my story and the journey that brought me to where I am today—a self-taught baker, world traveler, and passionate lover of all things Slovenian and homemade.
I was born in a small village in Slovenia, a beautiful country in Central Europe. From a young age, I had a restless spirit, always dreaming of discovering the world. During university, I took the opportunity to go on a student exchange to Spain, where I met lifelong friends—one of whom, ten years later, became my husband.
My adventurous spirit then took me all the way to China, where I spent over six years living, traveling, learning Chinese, and starting a family. It was there that my passion for baking reignited. When I became a mother, I found myself yearning to create again, and slowly I began baking treats for my family and close friends.
By pure coincidence, a friend who organized birthday parties for kids asked me to bake for her events. Word spread quickly within the expat community in Changzhou, and before I knew it, I was baking cakes and pies every day. It was in those moments that Maja’s Magic was born.
However, everything changed when we moved to the U.S. While it wasn’t the language barrier I faced this time, moving with my whole family meant I had to prioritize settling everyone in before I could think about my next steps. But once we were settled, I realized I had the opportunity to start fresh—and it was then that I remembered the flavors of my childhood.
You see, I missed the traditional Slovenian treats from home—the ones that brought comfort and connection to my heritage. As the orders slowed down, I had the time to dive deep into perfecting those nostalgic recipes, and that’s when “Slovenian Magic” came to life.
Now, my mission is to bring those authentic Slovenian flavors to you. Through my baked goods, I share the tastes and traditions that shaped my childhood. From potica to strudel, honey spiced cookies to savory breads, each treat is made with love, using only the best ingredients, and crafted to bring a little piece of Slovenia to your table.
It’s my privilege to continue this tradition and to introduce you to the rich flavors and heritage of Slovenia, one bite at a time.
